This is the story inspired by TV series, in actual (according to the core vyasa Mahabharata), Shakuni lives comfortably in Hastinapur. He does not hate his sister's family. When Duryodhana becomes deeply depressed and threatens suicide out of jealousy toward the Pandavas, Shakuni step in to help his nephew.
In short: Shakuni has no revenge motive against the Kauravas. He is purely devoted to his nephew Duryodhana and wants him to rule the empire.
