When the Yellowstone hotspot was under what is known as Jackpot Nevada today, erupted with such violent force, it created its own weather, disobeyed the prevailing winds and dumped over 30 ft of ash as far west as Vantage Washington. The amount of force it took to do that was extensive. Then when the hotspot moved east, a series of fissure eruptions occurred and buried the eastern oregon, Washington in over 3 miles thick of basaltic lava. One of the flows from Orofino Idaho made as far west as Astoria oregon. It dove down into the sand under the ocean, created a new magma chamber and erupted…
