I remember an anecdote from a friend of mine, we'll call him Harry, several years ago where a friend of his, we'll call him Bill, asked him to describe why a shot in a movie was set up like it was.
So Harry described how the actors were arranged, how the lighting cast one of them in shadow in order to visually articulate his emotional state and how he feels about the other characters in the scene, etc. It was a pretty in-depth description that I don't fully recall because it was several years ago and I'm only a casual movie-viewer myself (also I had never seen the movie he was describing.)
